Benefits of TAL Health Sense Plus
In June 2019, TAL launched the Health Sense Plus program. TAL Health Sense Plus encourages customers to get preventative screening tests that could typically be used to detect or prevent certain diseases linked to weight gain and level of physical activity. By getting these screening tests, customers generally have a higher chance of detecting certain preventative health conditions. TAL Health Sense Plus generally offers existing customers a 5% lump sum discount on their premium for an eligible Accelerated Protection Life, Critical Illness, and TPD insurance policy for two years to customers who get the requested screening tests.
TAL Health Sense Plus Eligibility
If you are eligible, TAL will send you an offer for the Health Sense Plus discount after you have had your 1st policy anniversary and you will have to revalidate this offer every two years. To be eligible for the TAL Health Sense Plus discount, you typically have to get the recommended preventative screening test from your GP.
- Just like TAL Health Sense, to be eligible for the Health Sense Plus discount, your BMI (Body Mass Index) must be between 19.0 and 28.0.
- You must not have made any claims on any of your TAL policies when applying for Health Sense Plus.
- You must have an eligible Accelerated Protection Life, Critical Illness or TPD Insurance Plan.
- You must be less than 62 at the time you apply for the Health Sense Plus discount.
- You have to have a valid email address and phone number for TAL to send you the offer.
- You must have had at least one or more of the recommended preventative screening tests in the nine months before receiving the offer or ahead of the offer expiration.
- Once you have the results of your screening test, you must provide TAL with proof of the test you took. This can include a copy of the doctor’s invoice, receipt, referral letter, medical certificate or the GP’s note that states which test you took. You do not have to provide the actual results of the test.

My BMI is about 20, and always stays well under 25.
I’ve have TAL life & critical illness insurance for many years.
However my adviser tells me there are now much better deals around that offer better cover for less money.
Can you please upgrade my cover and apply the health sense BMI discount to my existing policies to save me the trouble of shopping around for a better deal?
Hi Paul, thanks for contacting us. With regards to the TAL Health Sense BMI discount, this is only available to new policies and policies that are under 180 days of being in force. This means that it will not apply to any of TAL’s older Legacy Products and only to TAL’s Accelerated Protection portfolio.
Whilst you have an excellent BMI and from your question indicating you have had your TAL policies for many years, you would likely be ineligible for this to be applied to your current TAL policies, but you can consider cancelling your existing TAL policies and applying for new policies but this would require providing a new ‘personal statement’ again to TAL which means disclosing your medical and financial information to them again in a brand new application. You will have to decide if you wanted to look at an option like this as there may be advantages and disadvantages in doing so.
However, in regards to other policies that may offer better deals, keep in mind that we compare up to 12 different insurers including TAL so you are welcome to contact us on 1300 135 205 and we can take you through the process of easily comparing policy premiums and their associated features & benefits.
Hi, for how long will TAL life insurance stay and when does it expire?
Hi Fayez
Generally, a TAL life insurance policy held outside of superannuation, expires before the life insured’s 100th birthday.
